FAQ

General Questions

Can I run just one bot instead of both?

Yes. Either bot works independently. Rascal is recommended as a solo bot since he handles more admin features (tickets, auto-role, Auto-Mod, verification, etc.). Halcyon is great for communities that prefer a calmer presence.

Do the bots work in multiple servers?

Yes. All data is isolated per server, including module settings, economy, XP, and memories.

Are my conversations private?

It depends on the server. Replies come from the server's own Compute Module first, if one is online, and otherwise from the Doombringerz hosted server. On the Doombringerz community server, Anthropic's Claude API is tried before the hosted server, so the message text goes to Anthropic. No customer server reaches that API today. When it opens, it will need a paid plan and the consent switch on. Image generation is not available yet, so no image prompt is sent anywhere.

Will the bots spam my server?

No. The bots mostly speak when spoken to (via commands, mentions, or replies). Interjection is on by default, with a 15% chance per message and cooldowns in between, and the frequency is configurable per channel with /rsettings or /hsettings. Each level-up is announced once, by whichever bot awarded the XP.

Features

Why do some features say "Rascal only"?

Some setup commands only exist on Rascal: !ticketsetup, !autorole, !automod, !auditlog, !verify, !altwatch, !suggestsetup, !birthdaysetup, !confesssetup and !colorsetup. Member joins and reactions are handled by both bots, and only one of them acts on each event.

How do I enable a module?

Server admins can enable modules through the admin dashboard. Some modules also have setup commands (like !ticketsetup or !autorole).

Can members earn both XP and currency?

Yes. XP and economy are separate systems. XP comes from messages automatically. Currency comes from daily claims and admin-configured sources.

Do the bots need special Discord permissions?

For basic chat, they only need Send Messages and Read Message History. For full functionality (tickets, roles, moderation), they need Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Manage Messages, Kick Members, Ban Members and Moderate Members. See the Invite & Setup page for the complete list.

Troubleshooting

The bot isn't responding to my messages

  • Make sure the bot is in the channel (check channel permissions)
  • Try @mentioning the bot directly
  • Check if the module you're trying to use is enabled
  • Use !settings or ~settings to verify the channel is active (needs Manage Channels)

Commands aren't showing up in the / menu

Slash commands are registered globally when the bots start, so they should show up as soon as the bot joins. If they still don't appear, the prefix commands (! for Rascal, ~ for Halcyon) work in the meantime.

I set up a module but it's not working

Most modules need to be both enabled (in the dashboard) and configured (channel set, role set, etc.). Check the module's setup command for required configuration steps.
